SEATTLE – Rounding out the Redhawks' 2020 recruiting class, Seattle U men's basketball Head Coach Jim Hayford announced the signing of 6-1 guard Angelo Stuart Thursday. Stuart joins the program with three years of eligibility after spending his freshman season at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Mo.
"Angelo had an amazing season on one of the top junior college teams in the country earning conference MVP honors while making things happen in the classroom with a 4.00 GPA," Hayford said. "We are very happy he is joining our program and expect him to make a great contribution on and off the court at Seattle U."
Stuart had a tremendous 2019-20 year on the court and in the classroom. The Queens, N.Y., native led the Cardinals to a 30-2, the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference Championship and the No. 1 seed in the Region 16 Tournament. In 32 games played, Stuart led MAC in scoring at 17.8 ppg while shooting nearly 55 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 80.4 percent from the charity stripe. He added 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for a squad that averaged 90.7 ppg while holding opponents to just 63.6 ppg.
Postseason honors poured in for the Stuart as he earned First Team All-MCCAC, First Team All-Region 16, Region 16 Player of the Year and NJCAA Division I Second Team All-American.
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Stuart maintained a 4.0 GPA during 2019-20, earning NJCAA First Team All-Academic honors. He will major in Business/Economics at Seattle U.
Stuart attended Lincoln Academy Prep in Suwanee, Ga., during his senior year of high school. He averaged 12.0 ppg for the nationally-ranked Bulldogs as the squad advanced to the National Grind Session World Championships.
His junior year was spent at St. George's High School in Middletown, R.I., where he earned All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council and First Team All-State honors while averaging 31.0 ppg for the Dragons.
