Men's Hoops Adds Grad Transfer Daron Henson

SEATTLE – Daron Henson, a graduate transfer from Washington State, will join the Seattle University men's basketball program for his final collegiate season, Redhawks Head Coach Jim Hayford announced Tuesday.

SEATTLEDaron Henson, a graduate transfer from Washington State, will join the Seattle University men's basketball program for his final collegiate season, Redhawks Head Coach Jim Hayford announced Tuesday.

"Daron is a great addition to our program," said Hayford. "He is an exceptional shooter and will fit very well into our offensive scheme. His addition to our campus is something we as a staff are very excited about and I look forward to him having a strong senior season."

Henson saw action in 10 games during his junior season at Washington State. He finished 10-of-25 from deep, leading the team at 40& three-point shooting. He hit 4-of-6 from three in his Pac-12 debut, finishing with 12 points in 19 minutes of action at Stanford on Jan. 11. Henson scored a career-high 13 points at Colorado on Jan. 23, hitting 3-of-5 from deep.

The 6-7 forward spent his first two collegiate seasons at Utah State. He redshirted his freshman year in 2016-17, then appeared in 33 games with one start during his redshirt freshman season campaign in 2017-18. He scored in double figures seven times that season, including a career-high 18 points at Fresno State on Jan. 27, 2017. Henson averaged 4.3 ppg and hit 38 threes during that season.

Henson went on to play his sophomore season at Salt Lake Community College, averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as he started all 28 games. He would lead SLCC to a 20-9 record during the 2018-19 season.

The Pasadena, Calif., native played his senior season of high school ball at Cathedral High School where he averaged 17. 1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He scored in double figures in all but three games, including a season-high 27 points against Oak Park High School. 

Henson also played two years at Alemany High School, averaging 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds as a junior. He earned Los Angeles Daily News All-Area Second Team honors and was a Los Angeles Times two-time, All-League honoree.
