DENVER – Shi Smith of Seattle University softball has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week, for the period ending on March 1. It marks Smith's second straight WAC weekly honor.
Smith, a junior from Gresham, Ore., pitched a complete game in a 6-1 win over Oregon State on Friday. She struck out 10 batters, allowing just four hits and one run.
The next day, Smith earned a save, throwing a scoreless seventh inning in a 4-3 win at Hawai'i. She came on in relief on Sunday, pitching 3.2 frames and striking out nine while giving up two hits on her way to another win.
In 2020, the righthander has thrown 56.1 innings and struck out 83 batters while walking just nine. She ranks fifth nationally with a 10.57 strikeout-to-walk ratio and her three saves are tied for seventh-most in the country.
Seattle U heads to the University of Oregon for five games this weekend, starting with a game against the Ducks on Friday afternoon.
