HOUSTON, Texas — The first day of the 2020 WAC Championships saw a pair of top 10 performances and a number of lifetime best times, as Seattle U women's swimming sits in seventh after the opening day of competition.
"I'm really happy with how the team performed," said head coach Craig Nisgor. "We can work on a couple things to be a little crisper, but had some good swims. That said though, a good first day that will build off of."
The relay team of Allison Plamondon, Danika Himes, Bryn Lasher and Audrey Dixon cruised in the 200 medley, touching in at a season-best time of 1:44.88. As a result, the quartet cut nearly a second and a half off their previous season-best mark, 1.45.80, and jumped three spots to third-overall on the all-time top performance list.
The Redhawks then ended the day with the 800 freestyle as the team of Jayna Van Stone, Alexa Hoeper, Isabella Guadiamos and Julia Gorman checked in at 7:42.98. The time was the foursome's best mark of the season and placed them 10th on the program's all-time list.
On the individual side, Van Stone improved on her career-best time in the 200 freestyle, as she notched a time of 1:52.72 as the lead off in the 800. Van Stone held her position as sixth on the all-time performance list. During the 100 breaststroke time-trail, Tessa Oliver scored a lifetime-best clocking in at 1:06.99. Himes and Dixon each tallied lifetime splits in the 200 medley.
The Redhawks will resume action tomorrow morning with day two of the WAC Championships, scheduled to being at 8:30 am PT.
