HOUSTON, Texas — In spite of sitting in seventh after day one of 2020 WAC Championships, Seattle U men's swimming opened with a bang on Wednesday notching a pair of top 10 performances and qualifying for next month's CSCAA National Invitational Championships.
"We had a bit of the jitters in the beginning but in all thought we did," said head coach Craig Nisgor. "Some people hit lifetime-bests in their relay spilts which was really nice and we'll have to continue building from there. It also great to have two top 10 times right away and proud of the guys qualifying for NISC."
The quartet of Ryan Shaw, Jack Neton, Greg Raper and Tyler Goodspeed got the Redhawks started with the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 1:30.57. The season-best mark was nearly two seconds better than their seed time placing them fifth in the Seattle U annals.
The team of Alex Roderick, Connor Barringer, Zach Zenteno and Jake Goguen then closed the day with the 800 freestyle, notching a season-best mark, 6:43.18, placing them sixth on the all-time performance list.
In individual action, Will Corona, Jaden Weiss and George Thiss each posted lifetime-bests during times. Corona logged a 20.91 in the 50 freestyle. Weiss went 23.45 in the 50 backstroke, while Thiss was clocked in at 58.77 in the 100 breaststroke.
The Redhawks return to the pool tomorrow morning for day two of the WAC Championships, scheduled to begin at 8:30 am PT.
