PALM DESERT, CALIF. – Seattle U men's golf took on a massive field of 21 teams and 119 total golfers at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, their second tournament of the spring season and their first of the weekend. Ultimately, they came in 15th place as a team after three days of competition. No. 19 Auburn won the team title, shooting a compiled minus-22, while Wyoming's Tyler Severin posted a nine-under 207 to take home the individual win.
Sophomore Jack Rahon (68-74-73) led the way for the Redhawks, finishing in a tie for 21st place with his minus-one 215. Classmate Federico Gutierrez (74-75-74) followed at seven-over 223, while fellow sophomore Nathan Cogswell (75-83-71) finished third on the team. Senior Greg Gionfriddo (77-81-73) and freshman Will Koepke (78-74-82) rounded out the squad, with Koepke shooting an eagle in the third round.
Seattle U has no time to rest, as they travel to Jurupa Valley, Calif., and tee off tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. PT for the first round of The Joust, hosted by California Baptist. The tournament will last from Feb. 24-25.
