LAS VEGAS – Seattle U men's tennis hoped to turn their fortunes around on Saturday, playing at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex against a strong Weber State team. In the end, the Redhawks ended the day disappointed, as the Wildcats swept Seattle U, 7-0.
Junior Emilio Monroy kept things close in singles play against Weber State's Sebastian Buxman, posting a 3-6, 4-6 score in two sets. In the number four spot, freshman Lars Schmassman (1-6, 3-6) finished strong against the Wildcats' Cezary Walkusz, while seniors Trenton Nield and Alex Chan posted identical 1-6, 2-6 scores against Kris van Wyk and Bo-Han Li, respectively. Sophomores Jim Bauer and Juan Pablo Jaramillo rounded out the field for Seattle U, both finishing 6-0, 6-0 against Killian Sinclair and Brendan Barr in order.
Doubles play was no better, with Weber State clinching the doubles point after two matches. Monroy and Schmassmann teamed up against Buxman and Sinclair, finishing 3-6, while Bauer and Jaramillo lost 0-6 against Barr and Walkusz. Nield and Chan had a 4-5 score against van Wyk and Li when the doubles portion of the match was decided.
The Redhawks return to action on Sunday against UNLV, with doubles matches beginning at 2:00 p.m. PT.
