LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Seattle U men's basketball rallied multiple times late against Western Athletic Conference leader New Mexico State, but could not quite get over the hump, suffering a 72-64 defeat Thursday night at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, N.M.

Three Redhawks (12-13, 5-5 WAC) finished in double figures, paced by Terrell Brown's 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Morgan Means and Mattia Da Campo chipped in 10 points apiece while Riley Grigsby added nine.

NM State (20-6, 11-0 WAC) was paced by Johnny McCants' 14 points and 18 rebounds. Four other Aggies would also finish in double-figures on the night.

Trailing by 10, 68-58, with 2:49 to play, the Redhawks made one final push on back-to-back triples from Aaron Nettles and Jordan Dallas, cutting the spread to four with 1:41 remaining. But multiple chances to pull within one possession would go awry and the Aggies would sink 4-for-4 from the line to seal the game.

NM State led for the entire balance of the game, opening the night with 10-2 lead. The Redhawks balled back from beyond the arc, ultimately hitting six triples in the opening frame. But they would manage just eight total field goals in the half, heading into the break down 37-30.

Seattle U's first two field goals of the second half were also from deep as a 9-2 run capped by a Morgan Means three trimmed the NMSU lead to just two, 39-37. The teams would trade buckets back and forth as the Redhawks pulled within a single possession multiple times. But a 6-0 Aggie run inside five minutes to play opened up an 11-point spread, setting up the final Redhawk rally that fell short.

The Redhawks' three-game WAC road swing concludes Saturday in Edinburg, Texas, against UTRGV. Tip-off from the UTRGV Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m. local, 5 p.m. Pacific.
