Seattle University men's swim team closed the 2019-20 regular season with a lopsided victory, 165-90, over Simon Fraser on Saturday at the Redhawk Center.

SEATTLE — Seattle University men's swim team closed the 2019-20 regular season with a lopsided victory, 165-90, over Simon Fraser on Saturday at the Redhawk Center. 

"The guys came to race today," said head coach Craig Nisgor. "They had a pretty hard week in practice, but still showed up. There was a lot of good things that came from today both on the team and individual side, and that was very exciting to see."

From the opening race the Redhawks dominated the Clan as they won the first four events, before closing the effort winning 10 of 14 events, including eight individual victories.

Juan Varela, Connor Barringer and Ryan Shaw each tallied first-place finishes for a strong start to the day. Varela led things off with a time of 16:11.54 in the 1650-yard freestyle. Barringer notched a 1:42.67 in the 200 freestyle, while Shaw touched in at 51.22 in the 100 backstroke.

The Redhawks then went 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle with Isaac Parker and Tyler Goodspeed recording respective times of 21.24 and 21.81, while Greg Raper led the trio with a 20.69. Parker and Goodspeed then took the top two spots in the 100 freestyle event, touching the wall at 47.08 and 47.72 respectively.

Jack Neton won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.48.

Shaw and Raper then each picked up their second individual victories of the afternoon. In the 200 backstroke, Shaw was victorious as he came in at 1:53.57, before Raper led the field in the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of 49.08. 

The day was book ended with a pair of first-place finishes in relay action, beginning with the team of Shaw, Neton, Emmett Moore and Will Corona, as they recorded a 3:26.61 in the 400 medley. The Redhawk quartet of Raper, Parker, Goodspeed and Corona then blitzed the field in the 400 freestyle, logging a time of 3:04.85.

Seattle U will now turn its attention to the WAC Championships, held in Houston, in late February.
