ABOUT THE SERIES VS CSU BAKERSFIELD
This will be the 22nd meeting all-time between Seattle U and CSU Bakersfield, with the Roadrunners holding a 14-7 series advantage. The teams split the home-and-home series in each of the past two seasons, each winning on their own court. The teams opened 2018-19 WAC play on Jan. 3, 2019 going head-to-head in Bakersfield. The 'Runners would hold on for an 83-71 victory in that meeting. The Redhawks returned the favor on March 7, 2019 in Seattle, claiming a 63-57 overtime victory in the final weekend of league play. Four Redhawks scored in double figured that night, including Delante Jones (15), Morgan Means (14), Mattia Da Campo (13) and Terrell Brown (11). The Redhawks snapped a five-game CSUB win streak with a 59-55 victory over the 'Runners on Jan 26, 2018 at KeyArena. CSUB returned the favor with a 64-57 win in the Icardo Center on Feb. 24, 2018. CSU Bakersfield won the first three games of the series before Seattle U took the next four contests. The 'Runners won the following four games between the two teams. The Redhawks snapped CSUB's four-game winning streak with a 53-43 win at KeyArena Feb. 28, 2015.
QUICK HITS
- Seattle U dropped an 80-77 decision at Grand Canyon Thursday night, moving to 10-11 on the season and 3-3 in WAC play.
- The loss puts the Redhawks in fourth in the WAC standings behind NM State (5-0), California Baptist (4-1) and CSU Bakersfield (4-1).
- Terrell Brown led the Redhawks in scoring with 31 points. The output matches the redshirt junior's career-high, a feat he also achieved on Nov. 9 against Eastern Washington.
- The 31-point effort by Brown marked the 15th time this season he has led the team in scoring. It also marked his 11th 20-plus-point game of the season.
- Delante Jones added a season-high 19 points off the bench. The senior drained four threes for the fourth time this season. He leads the team in three-pointers this season with 38.
Seattle U averages a WAC-low 11.0 giveaways per game, which also keeps pace among the nation's best. The Redhawks' mark ranks 14th among all NCAA DI teams.
FINDING BALANCE
While Terrell Brown led the Redhawks in scoring in 15 of 21 games this season, other Redhawks have stepped up in four of the last six games. Morgan Means has led the team twice in the last six games, scoring 21 and 22 points, respectively, on those occasions. Mattia Da Campo and Riley Grigsby also owned the honor for a game. Three Redhawks now enter Saturday's game averaging double-figures for the season – Brown (19.8 ppg), Means (11.4 ppg) and Myles Carter (10.0 ppg) – while two others are not far behind – Grigsby (8.7 ppg) and Delante Jones (8.6 ppg).
GETTING TO THE STRIPE
Seattle U's free-throw shooting has been a high-mark of the season as the Redhawks are 351-457 from the stripe, hitting at a 76.8 percent clip. That mark is second in the WAC and ranks 21st in the nation in games played through Jan. 23. They also rank 4th in total makes and 14th in attempts. The team percentage is a marked improvement from one year ago when the Redhawks finished the season shooting 71.6 percent from the line. Morgan Means is among the top individual free-throw shooters in the nation, ranking 33rd in games played through Jan. 23 with an 87.7 percentage (50-57) from the stripe.
1,000 POINT CLUB
Morgan Means scored seven points on Nov. 26 versus Western Michigan, giving him exactly 1,000 for his career. Most recently, the senior guard scored 10 points (Jan. 23 at GCU), bringing his current career total to 1,067. Means is the third Seattle U player to reach the 1,000-point mark in the modern DI era. Aaron Broussard (2009-12) finished his career with 1,271 while Isiah Umipig (2013-15) scored 1,164 career points.
1,000 POINT CLUB PART II
In just his second season with the Redhawks, Terrell Brown is on pace to hit the 1,000 career point marker. The redshirt junior enters Saturday's game at GCU with 880 career points. With at least 11 games remaining on the season schedule, Brown would need to average just 11.0 ppg to achieve the feat. He would follow Morgan Means as just the fourth player in the program's modern-day DI era.
