COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Seattle U men's swim team was dealt a tough head-to-head decision on Friday, falling to Western Athletic Conference foe, Air Force, 135.5-65.5, in Colorado Springs.
In individual action, Juan Varela began the day with a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle as he logged a time of 10:10.08, while Luke Christensen took third with a time of 10:35.15. Varela then posted another second-place time, 5:03.19, in the 500 freestyle, while Max Chesno immediately followed as he touched in at 5:05.60.
Greg Raper earned second in the 50 freestyle before tallying a third-place points in the 100 freestyle with respective times of 21.10 and 47.15. In the 200 freestyle meanwhile, Connor Barringer added to the cause with a third-place finish as he came in at 1:45.92.
In the 200 backstroke, Zach Zenteno and Ryan Shaw finished second and third respectively, with Zenteno's time of 1:58.87 bettering Shaw by seven-tenths of a second.
Seattle U again claimed two of the top three spots this time in the 200 breaststroke, as Jack Neton finished second, 2:13.61, and was immediately followed by Will Corona who logged a time of 2:15.15.
In relay action, the Redhawks earned a third-place finish in the 400 medley as the team of Shaw, Neton, Emmett Moore and Corona clocked a collective time of 3:34.12 in the first race of the day. Closing with a strong performance in the 400 freestyle, the Seattle U team of Raper, Isaac Parker, Tyler Goodspeed and Barringer took second with a time of 3:11.46, while the quartet of Justin Kalugin, Christensen, Chesno and Varela placed third with a combined time fo 3:38.44.
The Redhawks and Falcons return to head-to-head action for a second time on Saturday, with the slate of events scheduled to begin at 10 am Pacific.
