SEATTLE – Seattle University men's basketball extended its winning streak to three straight with a 81-60 victory over Incarnate Word Tuesday night at the Redhawk Center.

A 22-point, 10-rebound double-double from Riley Grigsby highlighted a Seattle U offense that saw 11 players in the scoring column, including three in double figures. Terrell Brown added a double-double of his own with 14 points and 10 boards while Morgan Means chipped in 13 points and four assists.

Seattle U (5-5) found its offensive groove from the opening tip, shooting 6-8 from the field in the first five minutes to open up a 15-10 lead. Grigsby imposed his frame to create separation, canning three jumpers early to get the Redhawks flying.

"We came out and shot the ball really well, I was really pleased," said Head Coach Jim Hayford.

The Redhawks broke the game open midway through the first, out-rebounding the visitors and utilizing their size advantage to jumpstart a 17-4 run, gifting the Redhawks a 35-22 lead with 5:01 on the clock. Seattle U continued to play up-tempo basketball, extending their way to a 47-28 advantage at halftime.

SU finished the opening frame with seven triples, a season-high, three of which came from Grigsby, who tacked on 15 of his 22 points in the first half.

The Cardinals (2-7) started the second half hot with a 7-0 spurt for their efforts. SU countered, forcing UIW into some early foul trouble, attacking the basket and getting to the charity stripe to halt the momentum from the visitors. The Redhawks put up 20 points from the line in the second half, shooting 28-31 from the stripe on the night.

"I thought Incarnate played really hard until the end," said Hayford. "That's a young team and a program that's going to get better."

A strong defensive performance in the second half kept the Cardinals shooting just 42 percent, pushing the game out of reach for UIW to earn the Redhawks their third win in a row.

"The shots didn't fall in the second half, but we played well, defended hard, and rebounded at a very high level," Hayford said. "And if you put that all together you get a 20-point win over a Division I team and we're very grateful for that."

Seattle U looks to extend the win streak to four games on Saturday, Dec. 7, hosting the University of Portland at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent for the annual Elgin Baylor Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a commemorative Elgin Baylor bobblehead.
