SEATTLE – Seattle University softball has announced its schedule for the 2020 season. The Redhawks will look to repeat as Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Champions in the new year.

Coach Geoff Hirai enters his fifth season at SU, coming off the most successful season in program history. In 2019, the Redhawks won a school-record 40 games on their way to both the WAC regular-season and tournament titles and the first Division I NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

In 2020, Seattle U will take on a daunting slate that features eight teams that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Tournament and 26 games against programs that finished in the top 100 in RPI.

It opens at the Kajikawa Classic from Feb. 7-9 in Tempe, Ariz. SU faces Northwestern and Arizona on the first day of the season. Northwestern advanced to Super Regionals in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, while Arizona appeared in the College World Series.

The Redhawks head to California the following week, playing at Stanford in doubleheader on Feb. 13. The next day, SU opens action at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif.

From Feb. 21-23, Seattle U will compete at the prestigious Mary Nutter Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. It will play five games, including contests with Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Oklahoma was the national runner-up last season, while Notre Dame and Missouri played in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

SU heads to Hawai'i for the Mahilhini Kipa Aloha Tournament from Feb. 28-Mar. 1. It will take on five foes who finished in the top 100 RPI in 2019.

From Mar. 6-8, the Redhawks play at the Oregon Invitational, with two games apiece slated against Oregon and Loyola Marymount.

The Redhawks open home action at Logan Field on Mar. 12, as Utah visits for a single game. They then welcome Stony Brook and Portland State for the Redhawk Invitational from Mar. 13-15.

WAC play begins on Mar. 20, as SU travels to California Baptist for a three-game series. It returns home for a pair of series, as Grand Canyon (Mar. 27-28) and Kansas City (Apr. 3-4) come to Logan Field.

On Apr. 8, the Redhawks make the short trip north to Washington for a single game. The Huskies advanced to the College World Series in 2019. SU follows with dates at New Mexico State (Apr. 10-11) and CSU Bakersfield (Apr. 24-25). It concludes the regular season with senior weekend against Utah Valley on May 1-2 at Logan Field.

The 2020 WAC Tournament will be hosted by Kansas City from May 6-9.

Seattle U returns eight starters from last year, including juniors Ally Choate, Carley Nance, and Bailey Thompson, who were all 2019 All-WAC First Team selections.
