SEATTLE – Seattle University women’s basketball has announced the addition of three newcomers for the 2020-21 season. Peyton Howard, Irena Korolenko, and Erin Tarasow have signed with Coach Suzy Barcomb’s program for next season.
“We believe this class will add to our versatility on the floor,” said Barcomb. “More importantly, all three are committed to their academics as well.”
Howard is a 5-9 guard out of Spokane, Washington. As a member of Spokane Legacy Red, she earned team MVP twice and served as team captain for three seasons. At Central Valley High, she was a key member of the Bears’ run to the 2019 state championship, as CVHS went 31-0.
“Peyton is a big guard who can play point guard through the wing for our team,” said Barcomb. “I love her toughness and mindset. She is a true competitor.”
Korolenko is a 5-11 guard from Redmond, Washington. She is a member of Friends of Hoop, helping the club team win the Ladera Ranch Tournament in 2018. At Cedar Park Christian, she has earned league MVP honors in each of the last two seasons. Korolenko has served as team captain for the last two years. She has scored over 1,000 career points entering her senior year.
“We love to recruit local student-athletes and she is in our backyard,” said Barcomb. “She will provide us with another long-range shooter, which is what we need in our system.”
Tarasow is a 5-9 guard from Moraga, California. She has been a four-year starter at Miramonte High. Tarasow was Cal-Hi CA All State in each of the last two years. As a member of Cal Stars since 2015, she helped the team win the Tournament of Champions in Atlanta in 2016.
“Erin is a versatile guard who has a high basketball IQ,” said Barcomb. “She is a great shooter and fits our system incredibly well.”
SU wraps its three-game road trip this weekend, playing at Northern Arizona on Saturday afternoon.
