SEATTLE – The 2019-20 Seattle University men's basketball team has something that it has not had in its two previous seasons under Head Coach Jim Hayford – seniors. Five of them, to be exact, along with one graduate transfer. And, in his 21st season as a head coach, Hayford will look to his veterans to continue to move the program forward.
"As a staff, we're really optimistic about what this team can accomplish," said Hayford, who enters the season with 398 career wins. "With our age and our experience, we have a chance to be a really, really good team in March."
Leading a core of 12 returners from a squad that went 18-15, including a 12-3 non-conference mark, one year ago are seniors Morgan Means (14.0 pig, 4.3 rpg), Myles Carter (12.9 peg, 7.9 rpg) and Delante Jones (12.0 peg, 3.0 rpg), who accounted for three of the Redhawks' five players who averaged double figures one year ago. Also returning is redshirt junior Terrell Brown, who led the team in scoring with 14.1 ppg while also dishing 4.5 apg.
Both Brown and Carter were honored by the WAC in the preseason with Brown earning Preseason First Team All-WAC honors and Carter earning Second Team All-WAC selection.
The Redhawks are the preseason No. 3 pick in the WAC, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches and the league's media members.
Seattle U earned a 92-71 exhibition win over Saint Martin's on Oct. 22. The season officially opens on Tuesday, Nov. 5 as Seattle U hosts Pacific Lutheran University in a 7 p.m. tip-off in the Redhawk Center.
