DENVER — Seattle University swimmer Danika Himes was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Swimmer of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday for the week of Oct. 14-20.
In just her second meet of the season, the freshman pulled down four first-place finishes in individual competition as the Redhawks hosted Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon over the weekend.
Himes began the weekend by winning the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breaststroke on Friday as she clocked in at 2:07.99 and 1:05.39 respectively. Then on Saturday, the native of Sammamish, Wash., won the 200 Backstroke and 200 Breaststroke events. She took the 200 Backstroke in a time of 2:05.89. However, her top performance of the weekend came in the 200 Breaststroke as she touched in at 2:20.05, setting the fastest time in the WAC thus far.
Both times also landed her among the program’s Top 10 performance list, as she is claimed fourth in the breaststroke and fifth-overall in the backstroke. Himes also helped Seattle U to a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay as she swam the second leg and posted a time of 29.73.
With the announcement, Himes becomes the first Seattle U swimmer this season to garner the conference’s weekly award. The Redhawks will return to action on November 2 when they cross the border to visit Simon Fraser in Vancouver.
