SEATTLE – The official opener to the 2019-20 season may still be two weeks away, but Seattle University men's basketball will give its fans an early look, hosting Saint Martin's University in an exhibition game on Tuesday, Oct. 22. Tip off from the Redhawk Center is set for 7:30 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
The Redhawks return 12 letterwinners from a squad that went 18-15, including a 12-3 non-conference mark, one year ago. Head Coach Jim Hayford begins his third year at the helm of the Redhawks program this winter, and his 21st season overall. He will enter Seattle U's official season opener on Nov. 5 with 398 career victories.
Following two seasons without carrying a true senior on the roster, the 2019-20 squad is senior-laden, boasting a five-member class along with one graduate transfer.
Back for their final campaigns include Morgan Means (14.0 pig, 4.3 rpg), Myles Carter (12.9 peg, 7.9 rpg) and Delante Jones (12.0 peg, 3.0 rpg), who accounted for three of the Redhawks' five players who averaged double figures one year ago. Also returning is redshirt junior Terrell Brown, who led the team in scoring with 14.1 ppg while also dishing 4.5 apg.
Both Brown and Carter were honored by the WAC in the preseason with Brown earning Preseason First Team All-WAC honors and Carter earning Second Team All-WAC selection.
The Redhawks are the preseason No. 3 pick in the WAC, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches and the league's media members.
