SEATTLE – Seattle University continued its run of strong performance in institutional Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to data released by the NCAA this week. As a department, the Redhawks compiled a 94 percent GSR, while seven teams tallied perfect scores in the metric.
SU has tallied at least a 93 percent in every report since 2008.
GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Graduation Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2009 through 2012.
Men’s basketball, men’s golf, rowing, women’s golf, women’s swimming, women’s tennis, and women’s cross country/track and field each posted perfect scores of 100 for the cohort. Fourteen Redhawk programs were over 90 percent.
Men’s golf and women’s tennis have perfect scores in seven consecutive reports, while women’s golf has five in a row. Women’s cross country and track and field have four-year streaks at 100 percent.
Men’s basketball’s 100 percent markedly tops the Division I average of 57 percent for this cohort.
