SEATTLE --- Seattle U volleyball will try to rebound after a rough start to conference schedule as it resumes Western Athletic Conference action on the road this week. The Redhawks open their slate on Thursday at Grand Canyon before traveling to CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, first serves are at 6 pm and 1 pm, respectively.

A GLIMPSE AT THE LOPES
Grand Canyon hosts Seattle U on Thursday with a 12-2 mark and are coming of a 3-1 decision on Monday at Kansas City. The Lopes are 5-1 this season at home and are riding a four-match win streak. 
• The Lopes trail the all-time series 12-1 dating back to Oct. 2005, their lone win being a five-set road decision on Oct. 26, 2017. The Redhawks swept the 2018 season series, winning 3-1 in Phoenix and 3-2 in Seattle.
• Collectively, the Lopes lead the WAC in digs per set (11.60), are second in hitting (.230) and aces per set (1.49), fourth in kills per set (12.45) and fifth in blocks per set (2.09).
• GCU is led offensively by Yeny Murillo’s 3.00 kills per set, while a trio of Lopes are 2.00 kills per set or better. Per WAC Stats, Teagan DeFalco is third among league leaders with 4.40 digs per set. 

A GLIMPSE AT THE ROADRUNNERS
Saturday’s contest with CSU Bakersfield will be the 28th meeting since the Redhawks’ return to Division I in 2008. The Roadrunners began the week 6-8 overall, 1-1 record against WAC opponents and hold a 2-1 mark at home this season. 
• CSUB leads the series, 18-9, but split the 2018 season series, dropping the last meeting 3-1 (11/17).
• The Roadrunners began the week in the bottom half of the league statistical standings in kills per set (8th/11.45) and hitting (9th/.151) but were listed fourth in per set digs (14.44) and blocks (2.11).
• Brooke Boiseau heads into the weekend with a team-best .253 hitting and is fifth among WAC leaders in blocks per set (1.00). Hayley McCluskey averages 2.70 kills per set. Jordan Ishida meanwhile has 3.25 digs per set. 

WHERE THEY RANK
The Redhawks began the week ranked atop the WAC in team blocks (148.5), good for 11th among Division I programs. The team was also listed second on the WAC stats list in digs (870), kills (748), aces (83) and attack attempts (2,136). Nationally, Seattle U was listed among the NCAA Top 50 in attack attempts (26th), kills (36th) and assists (39th).

THROWIN’ A BLOCK PARTY
Per NCAA Stats, the Redhawk defense began the week with a 148.5 team blocks, placing them atop the WAC leaderboard and 11th among all Division I programs. Individually, underclassmen Lauren McCabe (Fr.) and Julia Queiroz (So.) lead the way with 61 and 59 blocks respectively. As result, McCabe is 47th nationally with Queiroz following at 61st-overall. Freshman Johnasia Carr made significant contributions recently pacing the lineup with 21 blocks (1.17 per set) in the last five matches.

THE LAST 5
In last five matches, the Redhawks are 2-3 dating back to the Penn match on Sept. 20. During that span the SU attack is hitting .173 with 218 kills and 10.9 per set, while opponents are average 12.4 kills per set while hitting at .221-clip. Digs per set are nearly even with a razor thin edge going to opponents, 13.9 to 13.6. The Redhawk defense holds a 43-29 advantage in blocks, averaging 2.2 per set.
