DENVER - Madison Waguespack of Seattle University women's soccer has been chosen Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending on Sept. 1. The freshman went 2-0-1 in her first three collegiate starts, posting two shutouts for the Redhawks.
Waguespack, a native of Round Rock, Texas, started the week by holding Washington scoreless across 110 minutes of action on Monday. She claimed three saves, including a stop of a penalty kick early in the second half to keep UW off the board. The 0-0 tie marked SU's first-ever point taken from the Huskies in 15 all-time meetings.
On Thursday, Waguespack compiled five saves in a 3-2 overtime win over James Madison at Championship Field. She came up with a pair of key stops late in regulation to force OT, where Jessie Ray scored to win it in the 97th minute.
Waguespack wrapped the week with three saves in 1-0 victory over Portland State on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field.
Seattle U (2-1-1) plays at Idaho on Friday in its next contest.
