SEATTLE – For the second consecutive season under Head Coach Jim Hayford, Seattle University men's basketball is competing in the postseason. The Redhawks have accepted invitation to participate in the 2019 CollegeInsiders.com Postseason Tournament and will host Presbyterian College from the Big South Conference in a first-round game Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Redhawk Center.
"Our team is excited to compete together and enjoy more time doing what we love – playing basketball and having fun together," said Hayford.
Tickets for Wednesday's game will go on sale Monday, Mar. 18, starting at noon by contacting the Seattle U Athletics Ticket Office at 206-398-GOSU (4678) or visiting goseattleu.com/tix. Seattle U students, faculty and staff will receive free admission with a valid SU ID.
Seattle U enters the CIT with an 18-14 overall record, marking the second straight winning season under Hayford. The Redhawks had not achieved back-to-back 18+ win seasons since 2008-09 and 2009-10.
The Redhawks and Blue Hose have one previous meeting on the books – a 67-63 win for Seattle U on Nov. 27, 2009 at the Orleans Arena Las Vegas Invitational.
Presbyterian enters the CIT with an 18-15 overall record. They went 9-7 in the Big South and 1-1 in the Big South Tournament.
This marks the first CIT appearance for the Redhawks, and fourth time overall in the past five seasons that the Redhawks have competed in the postseason. In 2014-15, they earned home wins over Pepperdine and Colorado in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) before falling in the semifinals to Loyola Chicago. The Redhawks hosted again in 2015-16, beating Idaho in the first round of the CBI before falling to Vermont in the second round. In 2017-18, Seattle U dropped a 92-90 overtime decision to Central Arkansas in the first round of the CBI.
This is the 18th time in Seattle University’s Division I history that the men’s basketball team has competed in a national postseason tournament, including 11 NCAA Tournaments, two NITs, the 1951 National Catholic Tournament, four CBI appearances and one CIT.
