DENVER – Bailey Thompson and Carley Nance of Seattle University softball have been named Western Athletic Conferenee (WAC) Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period ending on Feb. 17. This weekend, the duo led the Redhawks to their first 5-0 non-conference since 2014.
Thompson went 8-13 with five home runs in five games at the Rebel Classic. The sophomore drove in 11 runs, scored six, walked three times and added a double. She slugged 1.846 on the weekend. In a win over Weber State on Sunday, Thompson posted the first multi-home run game of her career.
Nance went 3-0 with a save in four appearances in Las Vegas. She threw 17.1 innings and gave up just two earned runs. The redshirt sophomore struck out 16 hitters, while walking just one. At the plate, Nance added two hits, including a home run a win over Georgetown on Friday.
SU’s unbeaten weekend is its first such performance in five seasons. Its five-game non-conference win streak is the longest since that same 2014 squad reeled off seven in a row.
Nance won two WAC weekly awards during the 2018 season. This marks Thompson’s first weekly conference honor. Both were picked All-WAC Second Team last year.
Seattle U (6-4) heads to UC Davis for the Aggie Invitational this weekend. It opens action on Friday against the host school.
