SEATTLE - Seattle University men’s tennis opens its season on Friday, Sept. 21 at the Eastern Washington Fall Classic in Cheney, Wash., hosted by Eastern Washington University. The tournament will invite individuals from Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State and Seattle U.
During their last appearance at the event in 2016, the Redhawks turned in some impressive performances, with Trenton Nield advancing to the semifinals and Arshak Ghazaryan claiming his consolation bracket title in singles play. Alex Chan also won his doubles consolation bracket.
The Redhawks return one senior (Michael Schoettler), four juniors (Chan, Ghazaryan, Nield and Adrian Sanabria) and two sophomores (Emilio Monroy and Colton Weeldreyer). They have one new member in freshman Billy Givens-Jensen.
“I look forward to an exciting fall season,” said Interim Coach Chris Borden. “We only have a few days of practice before our first competition, so I expect all of our student-athletes to come back fit and ready to compete.”
During the 2017-18 season, Weeldreyer earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards for singles and doubles, while Ghazaryan also received a WAC Player of the Week award for singles play.
There will be no live stats from the EWU Fall Classic. Results will be posted at the end of each tournament day.
