SEATTLE – Seattle University softball has signed infielder Stephanie Merwin to join its Class of 2020. Merwin, an Oregon State transfer, will join the Redhawks for the 2019 campaign and have two years of elibiligity.
“Stephanie brings Pac-12 experience to our team,” said Coach Geoff Hirai. “That will be key for us next season and I believe she will provide a spark.”
Merwin, a Richland, Washington, native, played the last two years at Oregon State. She appeared in 72 games, including 34 starts at second base. Merwin excelled off the field, earning Dean’s List honors and compiling the highest GPA on the team for the 2017-18 school year.
At Richland High, Merwin earned all-conference honors four times and was chosen league MVP as a senior.
Seattle U won a Division I-program record 33 games in 2018, nearly winning the WAC regular-season title. It returns six regular starters, along with all four of the team’s pitchers, in 2019.
