DENVER - Joana Alves of Seattle University women's basketball has been chosen Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week, for the period ending Dec. 30. The junior put up 29 points and 12 rebounds at UC Irvine on Dec. 29.
Alves, a Lisbon, Portugal, native, posted the best performance of her SU career on Saturday, finishing with new career highs in six categories. She hit 11-21 field goals, including 2-3 three-pointers. Alves blocked three shots in the contest as well.
The honor is the first of Alves' career. This season, she is averaging 13.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. She is also blocking over a shot per game, best on the team.
Seattle U opens WAC play this week, as CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon visit the Redhawk Center.
