DENVER – Leahi Manthei of Seattle University women’s soccer has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Oct. 21. The sophomore recorded a goal and an assist in SU’s 3-1 win over WAC-leading Kansas City Sunday.
Manthei assisted on the Redhawks’ first goal in the 38th minute, touching a Hannah Carrothers pass on to freshman Bailey Hall, who scored for a 1-0 lead. The goal marked the first allowed by UMKC in WAC play this year.
With SU ahead, 2-1, in the second half, Manthei earned a breakaway and beat the Roo goalkeeper for breathing room in the 73rd minute.
Manthei led Seattle U to a key win, handing UMKC its first WAC regular season loss since Oct. 22, 2016. In 2018, Manthei has three goals and three assists.
The honor is Manthei’s second career WAC weekly award. She won on Sept. 11, 2017, after scoring a career-high four goals at Idaho.
Seattle U (7-7-3, 5-1-1 WAC) heads to Utah Valley to close the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27. With a win, the Redhawks will clinch the second seed and a first-round bye in the WAC Tournament.
