DENVER – Ariana Romero of Seattle University women’s soccer has been named Western Atheltic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending October 14. The freshman posted two shutouts to help the Redhawks clinch a spot in the WAC Tournament.
Romero, a native of Hercules, Calif., compiled 12 saves over 200 minutes of play on the road this weekend. At UTRGV on Sunday, she recorded a career-high 10 saves in a scoreless draw. Her biggest save came in the final minute of the first overtime, keeping the match alive for SU.
At New Mexico State on Friday, Romero logged a pair of stops in a 4-0 blanking of the Aggies.
The weekly honor is the second of the year for Romero.
In 2018, Romero has a 1.07 goals against average in 15 appearances. She has been at her best in conference action, collecting three shutouts and a 0.50 GAA in six outings.
Seattle U (6-7-3, 4-1-1 WAC) hosts Kansas City in a crucial WAC contest on Sunday. Kickoff for senior day is set for 1 p.m. at Championship Field.
