MADERA, CALIF. – For their third tournament of the 2018-19 season, Seattle U men’s golf enters the Nick Watney Invitational, hosted by Fresno State University. The competition spans two days, starting on Oct. 1 at 8:30 AM at the par-72 Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, Calif. Temperatures are expected to reach the high 80’s on the first day, with possible rain and mid-to-high 70’s on the second day.
Five golfers – freshmen Nathan Cogswell and Jack Rahon, sophomore Gabe Spach, and juniors Greg Gionfriddo and Zack Overstreet will compete in the tournament. They will face golfers from Brigham Young, Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara. In their last outing in the event, which was hosted at the Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif., the Redhawks finished in 12th place out of 16 teams.
This year, the men have started out strong, posting a ninth-place finish in the Ram Masters Invitational and a fifth-place finish in the Husky Invitational. In both events, Cogswell led the team with respective scores of four-over 214 (a mark which he shared with Gionfriddo) and ten-over 223 in the Husky Invitational.
