SEATTLE – (Sept. 4) Four Pac-12 opponents and 19 total home contests highlight an exciting slate of games as Seattle University men’s basketball Head Coach Jim Hayford announced the Redhawks’ 2018-19 schedule.

“We put together a challenging schedule that helps develop regional rivalries, allows us to host a tournament and gives Redhawk fans the opportunity to watch this team progress over the course of the season,” Hayford said.

The Redhawk Center, located on the Seattle U campus, will serve as the primary venue for the 2018-19 season due to the renovation and shutdown of KeyArena, scheduled to take place in 2019 and 2020. Seattle U is excited to partner with the Oak View Group and return to the newly-renovated $700 million Seattle Center Arena in 2020-21.

“Bringing games back on campus in recent years has reinvigorated the campus community,” said Hayford. “An engaged campus and excited student body creates a rowdy home-court atmosphere. We are also look forward to returning to a world-class arena in the heart of Seattle as soon as it’s completed.”

This season, Seattle U will also take advantage of the unique opportunity to engage the greater South Sound community during Veteran’s Day weekend and Nov. 14 with two key dates at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash.

A road game at Stanford on Nov. 6 tips off the season before the Redhawks open a 10-game homestand that spans nearly a month. Highlighting the stretch of games are the likes of Washington State (Nov. 14), Denver (Nov. 23) and Eastern Washington (Dec. 1).

A new tradition begins this year as Seattle U’s Homecoming game moves from February to November. The Redhawks will host Bryant on Nov. 11 at the ShoWare Center to cap a week of festivities.

“Last year’s homecoming game generated a special atmosphere for our players and staff and we look forward to enjoying that energy and spirit early in the season,” Hayford said.

On Dec. 9, the Redhawks make the short trip north to Alaska Airlines Arena to face crosstown rival Washington. The brief road stint concludes at West Coast Conference member Portland on Dec. 17.

Seattle U returns home for a single game on Dec. 20 before closing out the non-conference season, and the calendar year, on the road at Cal on Dec. 29.

The 16-game Western Athletic Conference slate tips off the New Year, beginning with three straight on the road at CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 3), Grand Canyon (Jan. 5) and Utah Valley (Jan. 12). The Redhawks never spend more than two consecutive games away from home after that, and conclude the year on their home court, hosting the ‘Runners on March 7 and the Lopes on March 9. New to the WAC for 2018-19 is California Baptist, bringing the league to nine members.

Seattle U finished the 2017-18 season with a 20-14 overall record and an 8-6 WAC mark, good for fourth place.
