DENVER – Ariana Romero of Seattle University women’s soccer has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Aug. 27. Romero did not concede a goal in two relief appearances in net this week.

A freshman from Hercules, Calif., Romero played 77:12 in two outings off the bench this past week. Against Eastern Washington on Aug. 20, she closed a 3-0 shutout in the 2018 home opener. Romero took over for starter Mackenzie Curry for the final 26:30, making her regular-season debut for the Redhawks.

On Sunday, Romero played 52:42, including two overtime sessions, in a 1-1 tie with Cal State Fullerton. She made a key save in the 88th minute, forcing extra time at Championship Field.
