SEATTLE – Sergio Rivas, Nathan Aune, and Declan McGlynn of No. 22 Seattle University men’s soccer have been recognized by TopDrawerSoccer as top players entering the 2018 season. Rivas was named to the site’s Preseason Best XI First Team, Aune earned Second Team honors, and McGlynn was picked for the Freshman Team.
TopDrawerSoccer selected the top 33 players in the nation, using three teams featuring a 3-4-3 formation. Rivas appeared on the First Team midfield after a standout junior campaign. The native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, put up eight goals and six assists in 2017 on his way to United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team accolades. Earlier this month, Rivas was voted WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Aune made the site’s Second Team defense. The senior claimed United Soccer Coaches All-American Third Team in 2017, becoming the third Redhawk to ever take the recognition. The Arlington, Wash., native was on the MAC Hermann Watchlist and was named WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.
McGlynn, a midfielder, appeared on the Freshman Team. He wrapped up a stellar prep career this year, ranking in the top 10 nationally in scoring with 27 goals for Crossfire Premier. The Kirkland, Wash., native played on the United States U-19 team at a tournament in Slovakia this summer.
The Redhawks open the 2018 regular season at New Mexico on Friday night.
