SEATTLE – (Aug. 14) Seniors Shae Harris and Maja Stojanovic were both named to the 2018 Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference team, the league office announced Tuesday. The duo were among 14 total players to earn preseason recognition.
Harris is the reigning WAC Setter of the Year after averaging 9.48 assists per set during the 2017 campaign. The senior from Vancouver, B.C., Canada, addled 0.62 kills, 1.88 digs and 0.59 blocks per set. She twice achieved a Division I program record 62 assists in a single match and she enters her final collegiate season ranked second in career assists (1,678).
Stojanovic returns to the Redhawk lineup as a dominant middle blocker. The Cacak, Serbia, native led the team in hitting percentage (.307) last fall, on her way to averaging 1.91 kills per set. She also paced the team with 1.12 blocks per set and her 106 total blocks ranks fifth in Seattle U’s DI era.
In a vote of the league’s nine head coaches, Seattle U was picked seventh in the preseason poll. Reigning regular-season champion NM State received six first-place votes and 62 total points to earn the top spot in the poll. UTRGV received the remaining three first-place votes and was picked second overall. The Redhawks totaled 23 points to come in seventh.
Seattle U will open the season on the road for nine straight matches beginning Aug. 24, then begin play at home on Sept. 14-15 when they host Idaho State, Montana State and Tennessee Tech in a round-robin tournament at the Redhawk Center.
