WOMEN'S HONOREES | MEN'S HONOREES
TEMPE, Ariz. – (July 24) Both Seattle University tennis teams have been announced as 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams, according to a release from the organization Tuesday. A total of 10 Redhawks earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the year.
On the men’s side, Matt Alderson, Arshak Ghazaryan, Jeremiah Kalmus, Emilio Monroy, Trenton Nield, Adrian Sanabria, and Michael Schoettler claimed Scholar-Athlete recognition. For the women, Madison Maloney, Kali McCollister, and Kelli Woodman were honored.
“Congratulations to both our men's and women's tennis student-athletes for these recognitions of their hard work in the classroom,” said SU Coach Adam Reeb. “These young men and women embody true student-athletes who strive for excellence both on and off the court, and I couldn't be prouder of them.”
From the ITA release,
“The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).”
Under Reeb, both the men and women have now taken home All-Academic Team accolades in each of the last three years. This also marks the third straight year that the squads have combined for at least 10 individual awards.
