NORMAN, Okla. – (July 23) Seattle University women’s soccer graduate Stephanie Spiekerman helped the Seattle Sounders win the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Championship Sunday. Spiekerman started and played the entire match as the Sounders claimed their first WPSL title.
The Sounders beat Pensacola FC, 3-1, at Gordon Drummond Field to cap an unbeaten season. They went 10-0-1, including a win over Fire & Ice FC, the league’s defending champion, in the semifinals this weekend.
Spiekerman started 10 games at center back, as the Sounders allowed just 12 goals on the season.
Spiekerman concluded a terrific career at Seattle U last fall. She is currently the Redhawks’ nominee to be the WAC’s representative for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor and also earned SU’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award.
