NCAA WOMAN OF THE YEAR INFORMATION
SEATTLE – (July 12) Seattle University women’s soccer graduate Stephanie Spiekerman has been chosen as SU’s NCAA Woman of the Year nominee for the 2017-18 academic year. Spiekerman wrapped up a terrific career with the Redhawks last fall.
From the NCAA, “The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating female student-athletes for their achievement in service, leadership, athletics and academics.”
Spiekerman, a Seattle native, earned All-WAC First Team honors for the second straight season in 2017. She put up a goal and an assist, as she split time between defense and midfield for the Redhawks. Spiekerman played a key role in SU’s 569-minute scoreless streak that propelled Seattle U to a WAC-record fifth straight conference title game.
Off the field, Spiekerman graduated with a 3.8 GPA while majoring in cell and molecular biology. She was on SU’s Dean’s List eight times, the President’s List five times, and was a four-time Academic All-WAC selection.
Spiekerman won Seattle U’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award last month. She was also a finalist for the school’s Female Athlete of the Year honor.
Next, the WAC will choose a candidate from member schools to represent the conference on the national level. Conference candidates will be announced next month.
