GAME ONE BOX SCORE | GAME TWO BOX SCORE
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (April 27) Seattle University softball dropped two games at New Mexico State Saturday. The Redhawks fell by scores of 9-1 and 12-2, with both contests lasting five innings on the day of Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular-season action.
"Today was disappointing," said Coach Geoff Hirai. "We'll pick ourselves up off the ground and get back to work this week."
SU (32-21, 10-5 WAC) will take the third seed in the WAC Championship. It will face sixth-seeded Kansas City on Wednesday, May 9, at 6 p.m. Pacific at New Mexico State. The winner will take on Utah Valley, the two seed, in the second round.
The Aggies (26-21, 11-4 WAC) took the first game Saturday, scoring three times in the bottom of the first to gain control. Kaylee Ree hit a home run to begin the second inning, but NMSU added two runs in its half of the frame for a 5-1 advantage. SU was unable to rally and the hosts eventually came away with a 9-1 decision in five innings.
In the second game, Carley Nance started out well, retiring the first six batters she faced. NM State followed by scoring four runs in each of the next three frames. Maddy Kristjanson’s two-run homer was the Redhawks’ lone strike offensively.
