SEATTLE – (Apr. 19) Seattle U baseball returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend, hosting UTRGV in a three-game series beginning Friday, Apr. 20 at 5 p.m. at Bannerwood Park. The series will continue on Saturday with a 3 p.m. first pitch and conclude Sunday at noon. NEWS AND NOTES

  • The Redhawks earned their second series sweep of the season last week, taking three games from Alcorn State by scores of 13-0, 13-7 and 11-1.
  • Dalton Hurd was named WAC Player of the Week for the week of April 9-14. He led the Redhawks to a 5-0 week as he became the Redhawks' all-time hits and runs scored leader.
  • The Redhawks are batting a collective .304, led by freshman Justin Mazzone's .400 average (18-for-45).
  • Sophomore Austin Lively is batting .390 and holds a 30-game on-base percentage. He is also second on the team in hits with 46, including nine doubles, one triple and one home run. Lively's on base percentage of .532 ranks first in the WAC and fifth in the nation.
  • Dalton Hurd leads the team with 49 hits, including 13 doulbes, one triple and five homers. He is also tied for the team lead with 35 RBIs.
  • The Redhawks have 91 total extra-base hits on the year, including 60 doubles, 11 triples and 20 home runs. Dalton Hurd has five of those homers while Lucas Denney and Curtis Perrin have three each, Sean Sutton and Lucas Denny have two apiece and five others have one.
  • Tarik Skubal leads the pitchign staff with a 5-0 record and 3.38 ERA. The junior lefty has 55 strikeouts in 42.2 innings while also holding opponents to a .167 batting average.
  • Jake Prizina is also 5-0, to go along with one save and a 3.97 ERA in nine starts and 10 total appearances. The junior leads the pitching staff with 61 strikeouts while his seven walks allowed in 56.2 innings ranks first in the WAC and 20th in the nation.
  • Closer Zach Wolf also continues to dominate. At 3-0 with seven saves and a 3.16 ERA in 18 appearances, Wolf has fanned 33 batters in 25.2 innings. He holds opponents to a .196 average.
  • Chase Wells was named WAC Player of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1. He collected eight hits, including a triple and a home run, on his way to batting .615 in a three-game series at Chicago State.
  • Dalton Hurd hit his fourth home run of the season on Mar. 24 at New Mexico State, giving him 16 for his career, which makes him the Redhawks' career leader. He passed Josh Kalalau, who hit 15 home runs from 2010-11.
  • Zach Wolf was named WAC Pitcher of the Week on March 19. He picked up a trio of saves as the Redhawks went 3-0 against Pacific Northwest opponents.
  • The Redhawks were selected fourth in the WAC preseason poll, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches. New Mexico State was selected to finish second, and earned a pair of first-place votes.
