SEATTLE – (April 11) Seattle University women’s basketball has announced the signing of Courtney Murphy for its Class of 2022. Murphy joins Sarah Rahon and Georgia Kehoe in the Redhawks’ freshman class for next season.
“Courtney is a vital missing piece for our basketball program,” said Coach Suzy Barcomb. “We were in need of a big, athletic guard who can score from the perimeter, go off the bounce and provide our team with some mismatch potential. Courtney fits that bill.”
Murphy, a native of Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, is a 6-0 guard. She has played for Sunshine Coast Phoenix on the club circuit, earning team MVP in each of the last two seasons. She helped her team win the adidas Gauntlet Championship in Dallas last year and advanced to the national grand final at Canberra Australia, placing second in the event.
At Mountain Creek State High, Murphy was chosen 2017 Sportswomen of the Year after standout performances in both basketball and Australian football.
“Her competitive drive and determination to be the best she can be fits well with our vision for the basketball program at Seattle University,” said Barcomb. “We hope Courtney will have an immediate impact upon our program in numerous ways. We are very excited about adding Courtney to our team and we cannot wait to have her on campus this summer joining the Redhawk family.”
Seattle U will look to defend the WAC Championship in the 2018-19 season. Kamira Sanders, the WAC Tournament MVP, returns to lead the Redhawks.
