SEATTLE – (April 8) The Seattle University women’s tennis team closed out the regular season with a strong conference match against Grand Canyon, but fell just short 4-3 on Senior Day, Sunday afternoon at the Amy Yee Tennis Center.

The Redhawks played a great doubles point with wins from Hannah Gianan and Kyra Jung at #2, and Kali McCollister and Lily-Ana Kreutzer at #3 to earn the point.

In singles, Grand Canyon won the first three matches to take a 3-1 lead, but SU wouldn’t give up. Gianan fought back after dropping the first set, and won the next two for the win at #2. McCollister followed and won her match at #4 6-3, 7-6 to tie the match score at 3-3 and everything coming down to the last court at #6. Audrey Scott battled and won the first set 6-2, but dropped the next two for the loss and the clinching match for the ‘Lopes.

“Today was a classic college tennis match that no one deserved to lose,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “I’m so proud of our team who left everything on the court. We played a great doubles point and Hannah continued her awesome form in getting her court and Kali played some really clutch tennis to grab her court. We battled so hard on every court, and Audrey especially was just a warrior out there. We’re excited to have a couple of weeks now to recover and prepare for the WAC tournament at the end of the month. We know we’re right there with every team in the conference so we’re excited to go lay it on the line there.

“We got to honor our amazing senior class today as well–Michelle, Kelli, Audrey, Maddie, and Sari. They are all model student-athletes and great representatives of Seattle U and our program. We thank them and will miss them!”

The WAC tournament will begin on April 27 in Mesa, Ariz. where the Redhawks will play the #3 seed New Mexico State at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinal.
