KANSAS CITY, Mo. - (March 30) Arshak Ghazaryan and Alex Chan won their singles matches, but the Seattle U men's tennis team lost a Western Athletic Conference match against UMKC 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Center.
The 'Roos got off to a strong start as they won all three doubles matches to earn the point and take an early 1-0 lead.
In Singles, Chan played a tough match at #6 and came out with a victory 7-5, 6-2. Ghazaryan battled the 'Roos' #2 opponent and despite losing the first set 6-7, he came back to beat him 7-5 and 10-8 in the following rounds, but it wasn't enough, as UMKC won the remaining four matches to seal the 5-2 win.
"Tough battle today," head coach Adam Reeb said. "We were right there. Alex Chan played a great singles match and Arshak Ghazaryan competed like a warrior like he usually does. We'll look to rebound tomorrow and finish the weekend strong."
The Redhawks will look to bounce back tomorrow when they face New Mexico State at noon in the last conference match of the weekend.
