LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (March 25) A big third inning for New Mexico State was the difference maker in the Western Athletic Conference series finale between Seattle U baseball and the Aggies Sunday afternoon as NMSU claimed a 12-2, seven-inning final at Presley Askew Field.
The Aggies (15-10, 2-1 WAC) erupted for seven runs in the third, and added three more in the fourth, on their way to an 11-0 lead through four complete innings.
The Redhawks (13-9, 1-2 WAC) finally got on the board with a single run in the sixth. They added one more in the top of the seventh, but NMSU scored a 12th run in the sixth and the game would be called in the seventh due to the 10-run differential.
Curtis Perrin and Dalton Hurd had two hits each for Seattle U. Jake Cosgrove and Jack Reisinger each drove in a run.
New Mexico State homered six times in the game, including four times in the seven-run third. The Aggies finished with 13 hits.
Dawson Day took the loss for the Redhawks, giving up seven hits and seven runs in 2.2 innings. Brayden Weyer surrendered four hits and four runs in 1.1 innings before Nathan Bonck came in for the final two frames and allowed just two hits and one run.
The Redhawks remain on the road this week, traveling to face Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas on Tuesday, before resuming WAC play at Chicago State next weekend.
