EDINBURG, Texas – (March 24) The Seattle University women’s tennis team opened Western Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 loss to Kansas City at the Orville Cox Tennis Center in Edinburg, Tx on Saturday afternoon.
Michelle Lui and Kelli Woodman took their doubles match in the first flight, but it wasn’t enough for the doubles point, as the ‘Roos won the other two matches for the point.
In singles, the Redhawks battled very closely, but couldn’t seal the deal. Lui won the first set at #1, but then lost the match. Woodman came back and won the second set, before dropping the decisive third set at #4. Kali McCollister also bounced back in the second set to take it 6-3, but ultimately lost the match.
“Today was a tough match,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “All credit to UMKC on the win. We were right there on a lot of courts, we just couldn’t quite take advantage of our opportunities when we had them. We’re going to learn from today and look to come back stronger tomorrow.”
The Redhawks will look to bounce back tomorrow when they play UTRGV at 11 a.m. at the same venue.
