SEATTLE – (March 20) Besides competing on the courts, the Seattle University women’s tennis also take time away from the sport to support a good cause. The Redhawks volunteered at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Dream Gala on March 10.

The JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research, which is a cause very close to many current and former Redhawks.

“Having the tennis team volunteer at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Gala means so much to me as a type 1 diabetic,” senior and co-captain Madison Maloney said. “Volunteering for this event every year is one of the highlights because the research directly impacts my day to day life.”

As listed on the JDFR website, type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that affects both children and adults and has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Currently, there is no cure and no way to prevent it.

This is an event that the Redhawks have volunteered for a number of years, with the hopes of spreading the word and help with funding the research as much as possible.
