SEATTLE – (March 16) The Seattle University women’s tennis team took a 6-1 victory from Illinois State on Friday afternoon at the SU Tennis Courts to extend their winning streak to three.
Illinois State only had four players available due to injuries, so after winning the doubles match at #2 6-0, the Redhawks took the doubles point. Hannah Gianan and Kyra Jung gave SU the win in the second flight.
In singles, Michelle Lui, Jung, and Kelli Woodman all won their matches at #1, #3, and #4 respectively, to give the Redhawks the 6-1 win with victories by default at #5 and #6.
“First of all, tough luck to Illinois State,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “We wish them the best and hope they get healthier before they start conference play. Our team did a good job of staying focused in this match which was our first one outdoors. We started better in doubles and carried that over into singles. We’re hitting our stride at the right time and we’re excited about playing UW tomorrow. It’s been a busy week, but these ladies have handled it wonderfully and we’re looking to finish strong tomorrow.
