SEATTLE – (Feb. 16) Seattle University men’s swimming will enter the 2018 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships with numerous contenders for placing at the event. The four-day, six-team meet will be held from Feb. 21-24 at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.
Coach Craig Nisgor, in his seventh season, will take the Redhawks into the conference event with momentum after a 112-89 win over Simon Fraser on Jan. 27. At last year’s WAC meet, Seattle U set three individual school records, two relay records, and 40 personal-best times.
“We have had some very strong swims throughout the season and are looking forward to continuing them at conference,” said Nisgor. “Across the board we have seen a lot of best times this year and know that this sets up us to do some big things. Our senior class has done a great job and it is exciting to see Jack, Morgan and Ben all seeded in the top 16 for their respective events.”
Jack Baldoni highlights SU’s competitors, as the senior has tallied a pair of top-16 times this season. He ranks sixth among WAC swimmers in the 100 butterfly with his 48.91 effort from the Husky Invitational. The native of Applegate, Calif., also has the 16th-fastest time in the 200 butterfly. He swam a 1:54.00 at the Husky Invitational in December.

In the 100 breaststroke, Nussbaum has the 15th-best time at 57.16. The Issaquah, Wash., native posted a 1:53.21 in the 200 IM at the Husky Invitational, good for 15th in the WAC.
Austin Barnard ranks in long-distance events, logging strong finishes in both the 1000 freestyle and the 1650 freestyle this season. The junior has the 15th-fastest 1000 freestyle time with a 9:59.42 on Jan. 13. Barnard touched in 16:22.56 in the 1650 freestyle on Nov. 4.
