SPOKANE, Wash. – (Feb. 16) The Seattle University women’s tennis team traveled east on I90 to face Gonzaga and lost 5-0 on Friday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
The match started with the Bulldogs taking the doubles point after winning matches at #2 and #1, and not letting down.
In singles, the Redhawks battled, but couldn’t break the Zags. Gonzaga won matches on the first four courts to wrap up the match 5-0. Kelli Woodman put up a good fight in the second set of the fourth flight, barely losing the set 7-6 (8-6). Before the match ended, Kali McCollister had made a comeback after losing the first set 6-2, to take a 6-5 lead in the second set only to have the match stopped due to Gonzaga clinching.
“I thought the team battled really well,” assistant coach Jessica Perez said. “We had a little bit of a slow start but they’re definitely getting better and better as the season goes on and conference approaches.”
The Redhawks will look to bounce back next week as they play Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho Friday at 2 p.m.
