Stockton, Calif. – (Jan 27) After getting their first win of the season, the Seattle University women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Academy of Arts University on Saturday afternoon at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

The Redhawks were coming off a 9-0 shutout of Stanislaus State Friday afternoon, but couldn’t hold off the Urban Knights. Art U took all three matches in doubles to grab the first point of the match, helping them gain enough momentum for their singles matches.

In the first flight of doubles, Michelle Lui and Kelli Woodman put up a strong fight, but just couldn’t seal the victory in the tie breaker, dropping the tiebreaker 8-6.

In all the singles matches, the Urban Knights took advantage of their momentum and won five of six flights. Only Kyra Jung came out on top at flight #3. After winning the first set 6-2, she lost the second set 6-4 and needed to recover for the win. Jung battled and secured the victory with a 10-6 win in the tiebreaking set.

“Art U is a very good team who makes you play a lot of shots,” head coach Adam Reeb said. “We came out a little flat in doubles but picked up our energy a lot in the singles. Many of the courts could have gone either way, and I’m proud of our team’s attitude and fight in the singles. We’ll look to finish the weekend strong tomorrow against Pacific.”

The Redhawks will conclude their three-match weekend in a meeting with the University of the Pacific on Sunday at 11 a.m.
