The Seattle U women's tennis team won their first of three matches this weekend 9-0 against Stanislaus State Friday afternoon.

TURLOCK, Calif. – (Jan 26) The Seattle University women’s tennis team conquered their first win of the young season with a 9-0 victory over Stanislaus State on Friday at the Stan State Tennis Courts.

Stan State plays in Division II, so rules at their home court were a bit different. Doubles matches all counted as a point, and were played to eight games. Despite the differences in scoring, the Redhawks took care of business, taking all three points in doubles. Defending WAC doubles team of the week, Hannah Gianan and Kali McCollister set the tone with a commanding 8-1 win in the third flight. Michelle Lui and Kelli Woodman followed with an 8-3 win in the first flight, and Kyra Jung and Madison Maloney completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory in the second flight.

Having won the first three points, SU didn’t settle in the singles battle. All six Redhawks won their own match, to seal the shutout 9-0. The result made head coach Adam Reeb happy, and excited to continue this season’s battle.

“Great total team effort today by the ladies,” Reeb said. “We had to adjust to the outdoor conditions and our opponents were gritty and made us play a lot of balls. We competed well and are working hard on our mentality staying strong throughout the match. We are excited to play a strong Art U team tomorrow and to get another match in outside.”

The Redhawks will play the second of three matches this weekend with a match against the Academy of Art University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
