LAS VEGAS – (Oct. 29) No. 19 Seattle University men’s soccer fell, 2-1 in double overtime, at UNLV Sunday afternoon. Tyler John scored in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) match at Johann Memorial Field.

"I love the way we play, but we did not take care of business today," said Coach Pete Fewing. "We have to give UNLV credit for getting the job done." 

The first half was action-packed, with the teams combining for 16 shots and six corner kicks. In the 19th minute, the Redhawks (11-3-3, 5-1-3 WAC) took control. Ozzie Ramos set up John for a header in the box, and the senior scored on the right side, putting SU ahead, 1-0, at 18:42. The score was the first of the season for John.

The hosts tied the match in the 36th minute, sending the contest to the half even at 1.

In the second frame, both sides looked for a go-ahead score, but the defenses were up to the task. SU held a 6-3 advantage in shots in the second 45 minutes. It strung together several chances late, but two Rebel saves forced overtime.

The first extra session bore no fruit, as an Orlando Neto shot was stopped on the only attempt of the frame. Timo Mehlich converted from in close at 104:01 to lift the Rebels to the victory.

UNLV (9-9-0, 6-3-0 WAC) held a 14-13 edge in shots. Josh Adachi made three saves in net for SU.

The Redhawks conclude the regular season on Saturday at Utah Valley.
