NEWS AND NOTES

  • Seattle U dropped its first two matches of the season, falling, 2-0, at Cal State Fullerton before suffering a 2-1 setback to Oregon State at Championship Field. Jessie Ray scored the Redhawks’ lone goal on the weekend.
  • For a fifth straight year, SU was voted as favorites in the WAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Stephanie Spiekerman, the reigning WAC Defensive Player of the Year, was chosen WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Pacific lost to Fresno State, 3-0, and tied at CSUN, 1-1, to start 2017. 
  • Julie Woodward begins her 21th overall season as SU’s head coach. She has won 275 games in his career and guided the Redhawks to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
  • Kerri Scroope is in her second season at Pacific. In 2016, the Tigers went 1-15-1.
  • Seattle U has won three straight season openers and four of its last five premieres.
